“The first fall of snow is not only an event, it is a magical event. You go to bed in one kind of a world and wake up in another quite different, and if this is not enchantment then where is it to be found?”
Last week me and my husband went for skiing in Narkanda, Himachal Pradesh. We both were very excited as it was our first time. It is 60 km from Shimla which makes it very easily accessible for everyone. Narkanda ski resorts is one of the oldest in India. So, if you are someone like me to loves adrenaline rush and adventure, then this is a must for you.
Usually we associate skiing as a luxury adventure sports which mostly people do when they travel to Europe. Why wait for European Alps when you have so many options in your own country and which are easily accessible too.
Narkanda is at an altitude of 8,100 ft and it has abundant ski slopes from beginners to advanced level. Fret not, you can always request for a guide once you reach there. He will take care of you, don’t worry if you have few cute falls. Its part of the game 😉
You have lot of options to stay at the resorts in Narkanda and can directly book from the resorts. But you can directly go and pay the guides at the ski place. You will see small kids skiing like an expert. They train kids for Nationals also. So, you know now that you going to the best place to ski.
So next time you plan your visit during winters to Shimla, don’t just sit back and enjoy the weather. Go to Narkanda and let the kid in you enjoy some fun activities. All the essential gear for ski is provided and you have personal guides to help you ski. It is less crowded and slopes are best for beginners to expert which is why Narkanda is a haven for ski lovers.
Despite all I have seen and experienced, I still get the same simple thrill out of glimpsing a tiny patch of snow in a high mountain gully and feel the same urge to climb toward it.
General tips – Please wear comfortable footwear because you need to walk a little before you reach the ski spot. And do not climb ski slopes without professional guidance.
Temperature – Kindly check the temperature before packing for the trip. Narkanda receives heavy snowfall during winters.
